Japan-Based Institution Meets with CDU for Potential Academic Collaboration

GLOBAL PATHWAYS: CDU Representatives with distinguished guests during the exploratory talk

Strengthening its commitment to global engagement, Cebu Doctors' University hosted an exploratory meeting on February 9, 2026, at the University Board Room with representatives from a Japan-based institution to discuss potential avenues for collaboration.

The Japanese delegation, led by Mr. Hiroshi Taniguchi, President of Digital Language School, shared perspectives on Japan’s healthcare and professional training needs, highlighting opportunities for international academic and career pathways. Together with him were Dr. Cynthia Neri Zayas, Professorial Lecturer at the Center for International Studies, University of the Philippines Diliman, and Mr. Felix Tiukinhoy Jr., Commissioner of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI), who provided broader context on cultural exchange, international education, and youth development.

Representing CDU were Dr. Rommel P. Merioles, Head of the Partnerships, Linkages, and Internationalization Office (PLIO) and Dean of the College of Nursing, and Dr. Enrico B. Gruet, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Medicine. 

The meeting provided a platform for open dialogue on possible collaborations, including language proficiency, cultural orientation, and professional preparation for students. Both sides recognized that future initiatives would require careful planning, alignment with institutional standards, and adherence to quality assurance protocols.

This initial engagement represents a forward-looking step in CDU’s internationalization efforts, reaffirming the University’s commitment to expanding global opportunities while maintaining academic excellence and preparing graduates for meaningful participation in the international healthcare and professional landscape.
